Every election type has its own model
Direct and indirect elections are stored and forecast differently. A Rajya Sabha vote is never treated like a constituency contest.
Lok Sabha
543 single-member constituencies, first past the post, every 5 years. Results by party, candidate, vote share, margin and turnout.
Vidhan Sabha
Assemblies in 28 states plus Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir. Each state has its own cycle, seat count and majority mark.
Rajya Sabha
Members elected by state MLAs through single transferable vote. Tracked by seat allocation and party strength, never forecast like a public contest.
Legislative Council
Vidhan Parishad in states that have one. Graduates, teachers, local bodies and MLA constituencies are modelled separately.
President
Electoral college of MPs and MLAs with weighted vote values per state.
Vice President
Electoral college of both Houses of Parliament.
Municipal Corporation
Mayor and ward councillor contests in large cities, conducted by State Election Commissions.
Municipality / Nagar Palika
Urban local bodies, ward by ward, with reservation rotation stored per cycle.
Nagar Panchayat
Transitional urban areas, recorded with the notifying State Election Commission.
Zila Parishad
District tier of Panchayati Raj.
Panchayat Samiti
Block or intermediate tier, named differently in several states.
Gram Panchayat
Village tier: sarpanch and ward members, imported from State Election Commission records where published.
Ward Elections
Urban and rural wards, linked to their parent local body.
By-elections
Parliamentary and assembly vacancies; seat changes update current strength without touching the original general election result.
Other statutory elections
Autonomous district councils and special bodies, each with its own rule set.
How Indian election data is organised
Country, state or UT, district, constituency or local body, ward or village, then candidates and results. A constituency can cross district lines, so the database records every overlap instead of forcing each constituency into 1 district.
- Constituency boundaries are versioned: 2008 delimitation, Assam 2023 and Jammu and Kashmir 2022.
- Historical results never change when a party splits, renames or a member defects.
- Current government strength is a dated snapshot, separate from the original result.
- Every certified figure carries its ECI or State Election Commission source.
